The consensus entering the draft was that Dallas would take a receiver in Round 1, preferably Matthew Golden of Texas. Yet the Cowboys threw a bit of a curveball with the 12th pick, then later answered the need at wideout when the event ended. NFL: NFL Draft - Source: ImagnWith Golden available when they were called to the clock with the 12th pick, the Cowboys blindsided a lot of people selecting offensive lineman Tyler Booker instead.

There was wild speculation about what the New Orleans Saints would do with the ninth pick of the draft. When he fell to the 15th pick, he was too good to pass up for Atlanta.

There were a lot of directions the Chargers could go early in the draft, but the overwhelming belief was they would look for a skill player, preferably a receiver or tight end. An interior defensive lineman was also in the mix. In the end, the team came out of the draft with players at all those positions, spread out over its nine selections.
