Today we live in a world where you are offered, in Paris, at the trendiest spots, from Frenchmen, “natural” wines, which are absolutely awful yet somehow acclaimed. Modern wine critics feel obligated not to speak in certainties, and to remain open-minded about every new wine from Uganda to Timbuktu. I’m sorry to offend with certitude, but the best wines in the world are French. Period. Italy and California have some terrific wines, but they simply lack the terroir of their French cousins.
