OpenAI and Elon Musk have agreed to fast-track a trial over OpenAI’s for-profit shift, the latest turn in a grudge match between the world’s richest person and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman playing out publicly in court. An independent body’s recommended carve-up of GST allocations is fair, the federal government says, and it will not seek to overrule the decision. NSW and Queensland will be under pressure to cut services or raise taxes thanks to the new GST carve-up but there is no expectation of a broader hit to the national economy. That’s the verdict of AMP chief economist Shane Oliver, with experts largely unsurprised an independent body recommended Victoria gain a bigger chunk of revenue in 2025/26.
