    ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. — A local man turned himself in after police say he caused a crash that destroyed power lines in Windsor. State police said the crash happened about 10:50 p.m. Thursday night in the 27000 block of Colosse Road in Windsor, near the intersection with Greentree Lane. A trooper arrived and found an abandoned 2006 Ford F150 in a ditch, having struck a power pole with active power lines across the roadway.

    CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A family has been displaced after a fire in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake overnight. The fire in the 800 block of Jerryville Street was reported at 1:30 a.m., according to the Chesapeake Fire Department. Firefighters arrived to find a family of two adults, one child and a dog had already evacuated the house. Firefighters extinguished the fire, but the family will be displaced from the home. Nobody was injured during the fire.

    SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk police are seeking the public’s assistance locating a missing teen. Joel Arocho, 16, was last seen at about 6 p.m. Saturday near the 200 block of Smith Street. He is described as having a history of mental health issues and is believed to be a danger to himself at this time. Joel was last seen wearing blue jeans and a burgundy shirt. He is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 130 pounds.

    HAMPTON, Va. — The city of Hampton has issued a statement rejecting its designation as a “sanctuary jurisdiction” by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. In a statement Saturday, Hampton said the classification is “inaccurate and unsupported by city policy or practice.” The city has contacted federal officials requesting an explanation, the statement said.

    NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk native and civil rights trailblazer Jerrauld C. Jones died Saturday at the age of 70, his family announced. Jones became one of the first African-American students to integrate Ingleside Elementary School in 1961 and later the Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg in 1967. He graduated in 1976 from Princeton University and in 1980 with his Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University School of Law.
