Science fiction is a very elastic genre, but it’s speculative nature it gravitates towards horror. Doctor Who season 2 episode 3,”The Well,” is a fantastic example of that principle. It’s an episode that executes incredibly well; and that’s before the reveal of the secret connection to a previous episode. Even the aspects of the meta narrative that tend to butt in help elevate the tension and mystery. That tension and mystery leads to the best episode of season 2 so far.

One of the most appealing things about My Hero Academia as a series is that it tries to actually consider what kinds of impacts super powers would have on society. It turns out it takes a whole season to shake off the rust. Doctor Who’s first full season after the return of Russell T. Davies and his production company had some really high moments. It also had quite a few low points. Many of the elements behind these highs and lows are present in Doctor Who season 2, episode 1, “The Robot Revolution.” Somehow though, the end result is significantly better. A new companion mystery actually feels compelling.
