We’ve covered China and its weird guns, and I enjoyed writing the article, so I wanted to look at the other massive country in Eurasia, Russia. Russia has a long history of weird weapons. This includes dozens of bizarre prototype bullpup rifles that look like Cronenberg designed them. Picking a bunch of weird bullpups would be easy. So, instead of picking weird bullpup rifles, I went with weird Russian guns that have been fielded by military and police forces. I needed to challenge myself a bit.

The Remington R51 and I have an interesting relationship. The gun premiered in 2014, but there was a fair bit of lead-up from the time the guns were announced to their release. I followed the production of the gun and was looking forward to it. Single-stack 9mms were the hot stuff in 2014, and Remington promised something different. One of my character flaws is liking things that are different just because they are different.

Estimated reading time: 9 minutesFirearms can be an expensive hobby to get into. Between the price of guns, ammo, and optics, it’s easy to find yourself looking for ways to cut costs. The KelTec P17 is a fine gun. It’s okay, and after a healthy break-in period, mine runs like an absolute champ. I had some issues with the sights, namely not being able to adjust enough to find the proper point of aim. I didn’t have much of a need for it, and it was a gun likely to sit in the back of my safe and be unused. Until I saw the Farrow Tech FT17 PDW Kit. KelTec P17 Live Inventory Price Checker The FT17 PDW Kit breathed a new sense of life into an odd but fairly standard .22LR handgun.

I’m a Lee Child fan. I like the Jack Reacher books. I don’t think they are high art, but they tend to be entertaining, and I like the TV show. The most recent season was based on the book Persuader. Persuader gained its name from Jack Reacher using a Mossberg Persuader in the book. The TV show also shows Reacher using a pistol-grip-equipped 590, allowing us to bask in the unspoken detail retained from the book to the show. I’m telling you all this because that show made me want a Persuader.
