U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) recently announced 21 Alabamians had accepted their appointment to a U.S. service academy. Tuberville, a member of the Senate Armed Services and Veterans’ Affairs Committees, nominated the students to represent Alabama in the class of 2029 at one of the four service academies: the United States Air Force Academy, Military Academy, Merchant Marine Academy and Naval Academy.

On Monday, the College Football Hall of Fame announced the names for its 2026 ballot, and four who left their marks in the state of Alabama were included. Former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville, Auburn Heisman-winning quarterback Cam Newton, Alabama Heisman-winning running back Mark Ingram and Alabama linebacker DeMeco Ryans were among the 79 standout players and nine legendary coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision nominated.
