The Board of Weld County Commissionershas filed its appeal of a Weld District Court judge’s March ruling throwing out a 2023 commissioner district map the judge said was prepared in a redistricting process that clearly violated state law. On April 26, the board filed a Notice of Appeal with the Colorado Court of Appeals.

Great job, Greeley and Evans. Voters in Tuesday’s election sent a resounding message to extremists in our midst: We don’t want you in power here. In the Greeley-Evans District 6 School Board race, the three candidates backed by the teachers’ union — incumbent Natalie Mash, appointed incumbent Dr. Brenda Campos-Spitze, and Doran Azari — soared across the finish line to secure the three open seats. They handily defeated transphobic book-ban advocates Ashlee Tilley and Stacey Casteel.

The Greeley City Council will likely move tomorrow to settle four legal claims against the city, dispensing $825,000 to four people. The council’s agenda for Tuesday’s special meeting following the regularly scheduled work session lists two separate considerations of legal settlements:With former Interim Finance Director Tammy Hitchens for $75,000;And with Benita Cano, Bernarda Rodriguez and Francisca Garza for a total of $750,000 to be shared among them.

Ballots are in the mail, and the Greeley Gadfly has a round of endorsements to announce. In the hotly contested race for the Greeley-Evans District 6 School Board, voters are urged to select Dr. Brenda Campos-Spitze, Natalie Mash, and Doran Azari. There are three seats up for election Nov. 7, and there will be seven names for voters to choose from. The three names above are the only voices the Gadfly can urge residents to support.

The Weld County Republican Central Committee on Sept. 18 cut a check for $5,000 to Windsor-based 501(c)4 nonprofit NOCO Reboot “for candidate advertising for (the) District 6 school board election,” according to documents filed with the Colorado Secretary of State. The donation joins a $1,000 contribution from anti-mask crusaderAngelika Weiss as the only funds NOCO Reboot has received this year.

A Woodland Park-based evangelical Christian group associated with Charis Bible College has begun to meddle in the school board race for Greeley-Evans District 6, just days before ballots are set to be mailed to voters. On Oct. 11, Sherrie Peif, a blogger employed by the Denver-based libertarian think tank The Independence Institute, posted to a Weld County Republican group on Facebook an “Election Guide” apparently produced by the Truth & Liberty Coalition.
