I’m working through cleaning up this draft and making some solid progress. It’s taken me a bit longer to get through the first 5 chapters, cleaning up the grammar and making sure I’m filling any gaps in the story. I didn’t expect that, but it seems the earlier chapters’ writing was still a bit weaker than the later ones. So I expect the progress to speed up the further I get. Who knew the more you practice something, the better you get?

I seldom make chicken pot pie from scratch. It's not that I don't enjoy a good chicken pot pie — I certainly do — it's just that I tend to make shepherd's pie instead. Because I don't make it myself, I usually resort to picking up pre-made chicken pot pies when I'm shopping at grocery stores. And after a lifetime of trying different brands, I've definitely noticed huge differences in quality. While some brands are really stingy with the chicken, others fill it up with nice, big chunks.

Book Update #7I closed my laptop after writing the last sentence and found myself quietly satisfied. This tale weighs in at 41 chapters after years of daydreaming, scribbling, brow furrowing, and forehead rubbing, this draft is done. It was anti-climactic and left me feeling like I had made progress, where there is often very little to be found. There are no cheers and awards for working in long periods of quiet solitude. Just a feeling deep down that this is one step closer to being finished.
