An unexpected benefit of U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade war, and the ensuing wave of Canadian patriotism, has been a soaring demand for Canadian-made alcohol. While the tariffs have created sobering side effects for some producers, demand is climbing for Ontario beer, liquor, and especially wine. The LCBO said there has been an overall 62 per cent growth in sales of VQA wine products.

Ward 9 Coun. Kieran McKenzie is calling for a review of hiring and firing practices at city hall after the controversial recruitment of Mayor Drew Dilkens’ wife over hundreds of other applicants. McKenzie told the Star he doesn’t question if the rules were followed in the hiring of Jane Deneau. But he added those rules should be re-evaluated in a city with strong mayor powers, where that influence can bleed throughout the organization, even if unintentionally.

A dream became reality for Windsor’s Nicole Mercado on Wednesday with the surprise presentation of a lightweight power wheelchair, a Shine Foundation gift meant to make the difficult transition to university a little less stressful. But Mercado, who lives with cerebral palsy, doesn’t plan to spend all her time at school.

Stellantis has at least temporarily pulled the plug on the Windsor-made Dodge Daytona EV amid slow sales and a U.S. tariff war. “Production of the Dodge Charger Daytona R/T is postponed for the 2026 model year as we continue to assess the effects of U.S. tariff policies,” Dodge CEO Matt McAlear said in a statement. Stellantis had previously planned to launch the Dodge Charger Daytona R/T, the entry level version of its EV muscle car, in the first half of 2025.

The Town of LaSalle has received a “distinguished” award for its municipal budget planning for the 10th consecutive year. The Government Finance Officers Association recently presented the town with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. “This milestone is a testament to the consistency, care, and high standards we bring to the budget process each year,” said LaSalle Mayor Crystal Meloche.
