Industrial technology giant Siemens plans to cut thousands of jobs in its automation and digitalization segment. The German company announced Tuesday that it would eliminate some 5,600 positions in the "Digital Industries” business — the largest reduction at the company in eight years, Reuters reported. The layoffs equate to about 8% of the segment’s 68,000 employees. A little less than half of those cuts would take place in Germany. Siemens employs about 312,000 people across its global footprint.
