The Statesboro Exchange Club held a community picnic at Foster Families 7th Mile Farm on April 5 in honor of child abuse prevention month. The Exchange Club  of Statesboro is a local civic club. They had this event to promote awareness and get involvement from the community.

Two popular restaurants in Statesboro closed on March 16. Soyumi, located on Buckhead Drive, and Statesboro Hots, located on Brampton Avenue, both had unexpected closures after many changes have been happening in Statesboro. “I feel like it’s really sad as a college community because Soyumi was always a great place to go for Friday nights or Sunday dinner,” said Kambre Gillespie. Soyumi first opened in August 2017 and was owned by Adam Tsang. Soyumi was a sushi and asian fusion cuisine restaurant.

The Chocolate Run is used as a fundraiser for the Open Hearts Community Mission. OHCM is a community based rescue mission helping people in Bulloch County. At the race sweet treats, T-shirts, and medals were given out for everyone that participated. “Oh man, I think definitely the start is just kind of scary, I get really nervous before a race and so it was scary when they said all right ready to go,” said second place winner Justin Boush.

On Tuesday, Christian Social Ministry opened another thrift store with inexpensive prices for the community. They offer materials that can significantly improve people’s lives, such as clothes, household items, pillows, and much more. Founder John Long had more to add on about how much support the store got from the community. “Honestly, I wasn’t surprised because I know how this community is,” said John Long. “They never fail, this community doesn’t fail.
