At 16, I stepped into The Daily Texan Basement for the first time. I attended a journalism conference at UT with my high school newspaper and instantly became captivated by a panel of Texan staffers sharing their experiences at the paper. As the session wrapped up, the adviser, Peter, led us down to the basement newsroom. Surrounded by seasoned student journalists in their element, I was completely in awe.

Directed by Mimi Cave, mystery thriller “Holland” follows Nancy Vandergroot (Nicole Kidman) as she discovers a twisted secret hidden beneath her “perfect” life. Vandergroot works with her friendly colleague, Dave Delgado (Gael García Bernal), to uncover the truth about her husband, Fred Vandergroot (Matthew Macfadyen), only to discover that nothing is what it seems. “Holland,” which premiered at South by Southwest on Sunday, takes place in Holland, Michigan.

Each day, thousands of students pass by the tarnished bronze statue of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the East Mall, but few stop to appreciate the impact of his work. MLK fought for equal rights and paved the way for milestones such as the enrollment of the first group of Black undergraduates into the previously segregated UT in 1956. Based on a true story, director William Goldenberg’s “Unstoppable” follows Anthony Robles (Jharrel Jerome), a wrestler born with only one leg, through his journey to become a collegiate champion as he competes against the school that rejected him. “Unstoppable” premiered at Austin Film Festival on Saturday. An inspiring, beat-all-odds story, this film initially appears no different from the rest. The opening scene takes the audience to 2006 at the High School Senior Nationals in Philadelphia.

Gathered at the starting line, Austinites and Longhorns — past and present — fill Zilker Park with anticipation, tennis shoes and relay batons. Zilker Relays, a 10-mile race with teams of four runners, will host its annual race in Zilker Park on at 6 p.m. on Friday. The relay, run by the Austin Runners Club, will donate all proceeds to its beneficiary, the Marathon Kids Program.
