Associate Minister for Energy Shane Jones has vowed to fix the "the most destructive decision in the history of New Zealand's industry" by restarting the oil and gas industry. His comments came from a scrutiny hearing which quickly turned into an opportunity to attack the previous government - particularly former prime minister Jacinda Ardern and former energy minister Megan Woods - and for banning oil and gas exploration in 2018.

The Minister for Treaty Negotiations says the government is open to dealing with multiple Ngāpuhi groupings to get a settlement done. Successive governments have been trying to get a settlement with the country's largest iwi for decades but have struggled to settle with the sprawling iwi under a single mandate. However, speaking to the Māori Affairs committee, Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Paul Goldsmith said the government's stance was softening.

The Waitangi National Trust's Pita Tipene is stepping down as trust chair after serving on the board for almost a decade. Tīpene has been a member of the board for nine years, the maximum length set out in the Waitangi National Trust Board Act 1932 before board members must step down. Fellow board members Jane Fletcher and Mita Harris will also close out their time with on the board.

It is Men's Mental Health week and a Māori clinical psychology researcher is calling on men to challenge Aotearoa's harmful "harden up" mentality. Soften Up Bro co-founder and a PhD candidate Heemi Kapa-Kingi told RNZ the idea for Soften Up Bro came around 5 years ago when he and a close friend found themselves going through a difficult time mentally. Talking openly with eachother, Kapa-Kingi said, was "therapeutic, "useful" and "quite pragmatic".
