Three Te Pāti Māori MPs who performed a tense haka in Parliament during the first reading of the Treaty Principles Bill last year say they are refusing to attend a hearing with Parliament's Privileges Committee over concerns their "fundamental" legal rights are being ignored. Te Pāti Māori co-leaders Rāwiri Waititi and Debbie Ngarewa-Packer and Waikato MP Hana-Rāwhiti Maipi-Clarke are due to appear before the committee on Wednesday 2 April.

Māori rights activist and close friend of Dean Wickliffe Tame Iti is calling for his immediate release following allegations of abuse by prison guards. Wickliffe has been on a hunger strike since 10 March, after being taken to Spring Hill prison for breaking his parole conditions because he was living in his car and not at an approved address.

The lawyer of Dean Wickliffe, who is on hunger strike after he says he was beaten by guards at Spring Hill Prison, is calling for his immediate release citing health and human rights concerns. The 77-year old was taken into custody on 5 March after being found in living in his car, a breach of his parole conditions, after being made homeless.

The lawyers of a 77-year-old kaumātua say he is on hunger strike at the Spring Hill Corrections Facility in the Waikato after being allegedly beaten by multiple prison guards. Dean Wickliffe, who was taken into custody on 5 March for not residing at his approved address, suffered black eyes and a three-inch gash on his forehead when he refused to be double-bunked, his lawyers said.
