The barge was built by New Gloucester-based Shred Electric. Shred has also fabricated a custom, 26-foot aluminum work boat powered by a large electric outboard. The average retail price of electricity in Maine during the 10-year period rose from 12.65 cents per kilowatt hour to 19.62 cents, according to data collected by the federal Energy Information Administration. That’s an increase of 55 percent.
