The event concluded Tech’s 15-practice spring season and allowed fans the opportunity to get an early preview of the 2025 Red Raider squad. Quarterback Will Hammond took first-team reps in the absence of quarterback Behren Morton, who is in recovery from shoulder surgery.

No. 14 Texas Tech softball made a 180° flip Friday night compared to its 2-1 loss the evening before. Outfielder Mihyia Davis gave the Red Raiders a hit of momentum before Wildcat fans could find their seats with a leadoff home run en route to Tech’s 10-1 run-rule victory over No. 13 University of Arizona. Davis’ opening knock turned into a four-run first inning as the next six batters reached base.

No. 14 Texas Tech softball was put out in order in four of seven innings Thursday night in a streak-snapping 2-1 loss to No. 13 University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. Arizona relief pitcher Devyn Netz recorded three of the 1-2-3 innings, including six consecutive outs in the final two frames to prevent Tech from mounting a comeback. The Red Raiders’ 30.8 on-base percentage led to Tech’s first loss in 12 conference games, according to Tech Athletics.

The NCAA cracked down on players faking injuries with a rule change Thursday morning that will charge the offending team a timeout. The attempt to prevent players from intentionally stopping the flow of play was one of seven rule changes made at the FBS level by the Playing Rules Oversight Panel in a meeting on Wednesday. Prior to the 2025 season, when a fake injury occurred, the play was stopped without the usage of a timeout by either team.
