STILLMAN VALLEY – Byron was firing on all cylinders Saturday in the regional title game against Oregon. The Tigers offense racked up 10 hits and scored in all but one inning, and Andrew Talbert struck out nine in a one-hitter as Byron defeated the Hawks 10-0 in five innings in the Class 2A Stillman Valley Regional final. “We came in today knowing what we’re eventually trying to get done by the end of the year, and this is the next step, just one game at a time to get to where we want to be.

DIXON – It took six innings, but Sterling was finally able to take advantage of its baserunners Friday against Dixon. After stranding lone baserunners in each of the first five innings, the Golden Warriors finally strung four hits together in the top of the seventh to erase a two-run deficit and rally for a 3-2 win over the Dukes at Veterans Memorial Field in Page Park. “It’s great to get a win like this.

STERLING – In the final tune-up before the postseason, Marquette got rolling and Newman got a taste of the upcoming increase in competition level. Alec Novotney struck out seven in a no-hitter, and seven different Crusaders drove in runs as Marquette topped the Comets 13-0 in five innings to close the regular season. “It’s the best time of the year to be playing our best baseball, and it’s nice to see us turning it up and getting things going for the postseason next week,” Novotney said.

DIXON – It seemed like everybody got involved in the offense for Dixon on Wednesday against Route 2 rival Sterling. The Duchesses placed 20 of their 34 shots on goal, and four different players scored – with nearly a dozen taking at least one shot – in a 5-0 victory over the Golden Warriors on Senior Night at A.C. Bowers Field. “We had a lot of shots on goal, and we had a lot of chances. Only a few went in, but we worked great as a team, and that’s really all that matters.
