Even before the season started, the Sterling Golden Warriors knew they had the potential for a special season. The just had no idea how special it would actually be. As summer workouts led to winter games, the Warriors’ goals turned into a program-record 30 wins, their first sectional title since 2007 and their first Western Big 6 Conference crown, thanks to a close-knit team with balance on the perimeter and inside on both ends of the floor. And the low-post presence was a big one.

ROCK FALLS – Backing up Zoey Silva’s perfect game with plenty of offense, Rock Falls rolled past Rockford Lutheran 13-0 for a five-inning Big Northern Conference win Thursday afternoon. Silva struck out seven – including five in a row in the second and third innings – and didn’t allow a baserunner, retiring all 15 batters she faced in 55 pitches. DIXON – Elizabeth Davis really likes playing in Dixon. The Genoa-Kingston junior homered at Reynolds Field for the third straight season, and was also strong in the circle in the Cogs’ 7-1 victory over the Duchesses on Monday in a Big Northern Conference game. “I don’t know what it is about this place,” Davis said. “My first year here really set me off, it was my freshman year and my first home run.
