    Raleigh County, WV (WOAY) – A former correctional officer from Southern Regional Jail was sentenced on Thursday for his role in the assault and death of inmate Quantez Burks back in 2022. Steven Nicholas Wimmer, a 25-year-old from Bluefield, has been sentenced to nine years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Wimmer confirmed that he responded to a call for officer help after Burks tried to push past another officer.

    Raleigh County, WV (WOAY) – A Raleigh County man has pleaded guilty to stealing more than 2 million in COVID-19 relief funds. Ryan Keith Bailey admitted to using loans that were supposed to cover payroll and other legitimate business expenses for personal purchases. Many of those loans were forgiven by the federal government after Bailey lied about what he spent the money on. He is facing up to three years in prison and will have to pay the money back.
