Collingwood will “shuffle the decks” for the club’s Anzac Day showdown with Essendon after star captain Darcy Moore was ruled out with an ear issue. Magpies coach Craig McRae denied Moore’s setback being related to his clash with teammate Jeremy Howe during last’s Thursday loss to the Brisbane Lions which resulted in him being subbed out with a cut ear. Moore declared himself fit to play on Tuesday evening but did reveal he wasn’t able to train on Monday through illness.

Richmond coach Adem Yze has declared charged defender Noah Balta available for senior selection, saying the club has “punished him enough”. Balta has served the four-match suspension handed down by the club after he was charged with assault in January. The 25-year-old has pleaded guilty and will face sentencing in Albury Local Court on April 22.

Essendon coach Brad Scott is using Port Adelaide’s blitz of Hawthorn as proof to what being “a bit off” can lead to ahead of his side’s clash with a winless West Coast which have been labelled an “absolute rabble”. AFL legend Kevin Bartlett launched in to the Eagles, who have won just 10 of their past 73 games and were smashed by Carlton last weekend. He called them “a disgrace” and an “embarrassment to the AFL” on Melbourne radio.

St Kilda coach Ross Lyon has joined the chorus of coaches fearing for the AFL’s future under the slashed soft cap but suggested the coaching cohort was a “paper tiger”. Lyon was asked to weigh in after Essendon coach Brad Scott lit the fiery discussion on Tuesday. Collingwood coach Craig McRae was the first to back Scott, declaring it had reached “boiling point”. Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge and Melbourne’s Simon Goodwin followed suit on Thursday.
