St Kilda hopes season-ending knee surgery will allow luckless spearhead Max King to be ready for the pre-season, making the call to send him under the knife again having failed to get him on the park in 2025. King, 23, had already had two lots of surgery this year to try to repair his troublesome knee, but weekend scans and consultations with specialists determined a third operation was required. The wretched run comes after he signed a whopping eight-season extension back in October of last year.

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has responded to the recent trade speculation surrounding absent star Jamarra Ugle-Hagan. The doors at Punt Rd are “always open” for a Dusty homecoming. AFL great Dustin Martin has made a quiet exit from the spotlight since his retirement but roared back into conversations when he was recently spotted in the changerooms. Richmond coach Adem Yze has since said he would love to have Martin alongside him at training and ramped up his pitch on Wednesday. Richmond coach Adem Yze says it would be “getting a bit cute” by playing defender Noah Balta on limited minutes to return in time for his mandated curfew. So instead the key defender will play in the VFL curtain-raiser in Sydney in order to be home in time to meet the 10pm deadline imposed as part of his sentence for assault. The Tigers, who tackle GWS in Sydney at 4.15pm on Saturday, will drop Balta to the VFL to take on the Giants at 12:30pm, to ensure he doesn’t miss any football.

The challenger is undetermined but the challenge is as clear as day. Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin says the Demons must “clearly” invest significant time into Sydney stars Chad Warner and Isaac Heeney this Sunday. The dynamic and destructive duo ran amok last week, pulling the Swans over a fast-starting Carlton at the SCG. While Goodwin remains unsure whether he will turn to a rejuvenated Clayton Oliver for the task at hand, he knows the Demons must nullify the skilful pair of Swans.

Tom Mitchell right in the thick of it for Collingwood in the VFL, with 19 disposals and seven tackles to HT. Returning Saint Paddy Dow is a bit rusty in his first half back but is more importantly uninjured. Tew Jiath came off early with a bad corky to left hip/quad.

Steve Smith practicing slip catching with a helmet on ahead of day three at Lord’s. The South African cordon stood within 15m of the bat yesterday after a stack of snicks fell short. Perfect conditions for what could be the final day of the WTC final. https://t.co/FoBxajDVFB https://t.co/cUSgEKXpUW
