Local excision (LE) and radical resection for T1Nx rectal Cancer has similar overall survival. Approximately 20% of those undergoing inital definitive LE required a radical resection at a median of 150 days. INTRODUCTION Colorectal cancer represents a significant global health burden, with a steadily increasing incidence, particularly in the case of rectal cancer [1]. In Canada in 2023, colorectal cancer was the third most commonly diagnosed malignancy [2].

This is the first systematic review to demonstrate that higher preoperative C-reactive protein levels are potentially associated with increased rates of overall infectious complications in patients undergoing elective colorectal surgery. These data may inform appropriate patient selection for expedited discharge following elective colorectal surgery.
