Canadians are bracing for another potential postal service shutdown as the union representing more than 55,000 postal workers issued a 72-hour strike notice on Monday afternoon, threatening to halt operations by Friday morning at midnight. This marks the second strike notice in six months. The looming work stoppage comes as disagreements between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) continue.

It has been Richard Thomas’ bread and butter, heading up the kitchen at The Glenmore Inn & Convention Centre for more than three decades, but on Wednesday he is retiring. Thomas has been the executive chef at the hotel for 33 years. He has trained his protégé for the last two years, who will take over starting Thursday. “For the first month, I’m going to sleep in,” Thomas said.

Recent Statistics Canada data from Calgary International Airport shows nearly the same number of travelers flying into Calgary from the U.S. as the same time last year. The data shows that 84,898 Canadian residents returned to Calgary by air after overnight trips to the U.S. in March 2025, indicating a strong showing for cross border air travel. That’s a slight drop of 1,775 from the 86,673 that travelled back to Calgary during the same time frame last year.
