Signs of a rebound may be emerging in Canada's real estate market after months of declining home prices. While buyer-friendly conditions persist in some markets, many Canadians will have to shell out more for their monthly mortgage payments, a new report shows. The monthly home affordability report by RateHub.ca looked at home prices and mortgage rates from 13 Canadian cities. In eight of those cities, mortgage affordability got worse in May.

Half of Canadian pet owners are skipping visits to the veterinarian's office because of financial concerns, a new survey shows. According to a survey conducted by PetSmart Charities of Canada and Gallup, half (50 per cent) of Canadian pet parents have either skipped or declined necessary veterinary care for their pets. Financial pressure was the leading cause of people skipping the vet's office, the survey of 2,033 dog and cat owners from the 10 provinces in Canada found.

After a slow year for real estate in Canada, with some experts describing the spring housing market as "dead on arrival," a new report suggests some markets are showing signs of life. A report by the Royal Bank of Canada released Monday said local real estate boards have indicated that home resales picked up in some Canadian markets in May. This was largely due to de-escalation of parts of the U.S. trade war on Canada, the report said.

A commitment by the federal government to use Canadian steel and aluminum for major national defence and infrastructure projects could be a "turning point" for Canada's economy, the union representing steelworkers said Monday. "The United Steelworkers (USW) welcomes the federal government's decision to require Canadian steel and aluminum in national infrastructure and defense projects," the union's national director Marty Warren said.

Health Canada is recalling two brands of radon detectors over inaccuracies in their readings, the agency said in a notice. Two models of the Life Basis brand radon detectors and one model of InkBird Wifi Radon Detector were recalled on Friday over inaccurate radon detection, which Health Canada said could be a chemical hazard. Radon is a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock.
