Lo de Seidl es de otro nivel, incluidos los documentales. Primero, uno se pregunta si realmente lo son, para después quedar en unos mundos que no se pueden creer de lo bizarros que son. ¿Tal vez por eso de que la realidad supera la ficción? Claro que, qué más da si uno siente que todo esto, por extraño y perverso que sea, puede ser real. Hay un atisbo de posibilidad que así sea. Quizás porque ya sabemos que el ser humano es capaz de todo. Y Seidl hace un cine que lo demuestra.

The story begins 5o years ago in Andalusia. Teenage mother Antonia lives in a closely-knit, destitute rural community. Her mother Milagros, her baby, the local priest and a few young women are the only ones around. The almighty Catholic Church has a firm grip on people’s lifestyle and behaviour. Females are quiet, demure and barely literate. Their biggest source of entertainment is an image of the Virgin of Carmel, a local patron saint, on fluorescent paper.
