The University of South Carolina Salkehatchie celebrated the accomplishments of the Leadership Salkehatchie class of 2024 and alumni of the program at a reception held at the Walterboro Wildlife Center on June 27. “I look forward to seeing the impact that the class of 2024 will have in their local communities and the Salkehatchie region and how they will continue to grow in their personal leadership journeys,” said Shelby Broomfield, director of the USC Salkehatchie Leadership Institute.

The University of South Carolina Salkehatchie celebrated its 52nd commencement at its Allendale campus on April 26. The University awarded 135 degrees including 116 associate degrees and 19 bachelor’s degrees, which were presented through the University of South Carolina’s Palmetto College and in partnership with other USC campuses. The graduates represented 4 states, 52 cities and included 21 high school students. One graduate maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA while earning her degree.

When you look at the coaches on the USC Salkehatchie baseball field this season, they all have one thing in common. They’ve been here before. Head Coach Jeremy Joye and assistant coaches ­LeBon Joye, Frank ­Cannon and Jackson Ridgeway have all spent time on the Salkehatchie baseball field as players. Now they’ve all returned home to lead the next generation of Salkehatchie baseball players. “The amount of baseball knowledge I’ve got in my dugout now is simply amazing,” Jeremy Joye said.

The USC Salkehatchie men’s basketball team capped a run through the Region 10 Tournament with a 69-58 victory over regular-season champion Caldwell Tech. The win earned the team a trip to the 32-team NJCAA national tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas where they will face Hutchinson in the first round. It is Salkehatchie’s first trip to the men’s national tournament since 2020.
