    Wong Chew Beng has been brewing coffee at his coffee shop in the Malaysian state of Selangor for more than 30 years. A lot’s changed in that time, not least of which the cost of a cup, which has nearly tripled from about 1 ringgit (40 cents) in the 1990s for a kopi-o, or black coffee to 3 ringgit today. But now the price is about to shoot up even further, increasing the pain for fans of the bitter bean.

    Singapore and Malaysia inked a major agreement on Tuesday to create a special economic zone in the Malaysian state of Johor, with the aim of creating 20,000 skilled jobs in its first five years. The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), to be jointly run by both countries, will be four times the size of Singapore.

    Nurflix TV, a hub for sharia-compliant Islamic shows, wants to be a key player in Malaysia’s streaming platform ecosystem. Launched in July 2020, it aims to provide content that adheres to Islamic values for audiences in the Muslim-majority country.  Nurflix (a portmanteau of nur, the Arabic word for light, and Netflix), was created to fill a gap in streaming services through safe and “culturally responsible” content, said Syah Rizal Mohamed, the company’s chief executive officer.
