Norske Skog has commissioned its recycled corrugated case material machine at the Golbey mill in France. The PM has a capacity of 550,000 tpy of recycled corrugated case material. The company reports that deliveries to customers will start during the second quarter of 2025. Capacity utilisation is expected to reach 50-60 per cent towards the end of 2025 and full utilisation of 95 per cent during the first half of 2027.

The recovered paper market in France has settled down again. After a hectic phase during which prices for the ordinary grades surged, availability has been improving since the middle of April. As a result, prices did not rise any further and a trend reversal appears to be on the horizon. Prices for deinking grades as well as higher recovered paper grades also remained steady in May.

The French market saw prices for ordinary grades of recovered paper climb significantly in April, in keeping with developments in other countries, including Germany. Concerns about adequate supply were rife, prompting buyers to dig much deeper into their pockets. These price increases had knock-on effects on other markets, too. Sorted graphic paper for deinking also became more expensive. On the other hand, prices for high grades remained largely unaffected.
