An Ashburn, Virginia, financial scammer was sentenced Thursday to three years in prison for fraud after federal prosecutors say he duped clients out of millions of dollars. In addition to his prison time, Andrew Corbman, 53, must pay $4.15 million in restitution.

Mount Vernon is marking a major anniversary with a reenactment and the ribbon cutting of a new feature on Sunday in Virginia. Sunday marks 250 years since George Washington left Mount Vernon to travel to Philadelphia where he was appointed commander-in-chief of the new Continental Army. It marks the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia. “It’s really a very special, interesting weekend,” said Julie Almacy, vice president, media and communications at Mount Vernon.

A Prince George’s County police officer on Saturday shot one of two dogs that were attacking a man in District Heights, Maryland. Police said the attack happened shortly after 10:30 a.m. in the 3200 block of Walters Lane when officers were responding to a report of “two large dogs attacking a man,” according to a news release. When officers arrived on the scene, police said one of the dogs “charged toward” him and he “discharged his duty weapon,” striking the dog.

After Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin called on John Reid — the Republican nominee for the state’s lieutenant governor’s race — to step aside, he vowed he would “not back down.”The Richmonder first reported Youngkin’s request, which followed allegations that a social media account with the same name that Reid uses shared pornographic content.
