As a "Gentile" born & raised embedded in Mormon Siberia (Idaho), I find Under the Banner of Heaven disappointing & wrong. E.g. BYU is NOT in SLC, but PROVO. The exposition for the Mormon-ignorant is clunky. Should've had Jane Campion write & direct. @johndehlin

This is kinda why I'm "taking a break" from science journalism. I guess editors & readers can't bear the ambiguity and the unknown, which is the very thing that drives a lot of scientists. It's really frustrating to try to bridge that gap.

Journalism has *no* idea how to cover science as process. Journalists want final, definitive answers when science constantly tests and retests questions, leading to more questions. Thus journalists skew the public perception of science, doing a great disservice.

My best friend since '73, a beautiful person inside & out, can't get her urgent kidney transplant tho she's ready w/ donor & home support system, b/c surgeries are canceled b/c SOME PEOPLE won't get vaccinated. Unvaccinated people are killing other people every day. I'm SO ANGRY.

I have been pregnant three times. The first time I found out at 8 weeks. The second time at 6; by week 8, the doctor declared a “very early” miscarriage. The third time I was watching closely. I confirmed it at 7 weeks. Most pregnant women don’t know they are pregnant at 6 weeks.
