Luffy from One Piece is one of the protagonists of the Big 3, along with Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach and Naruto Uzumaki from Naruto. A huge trope present in the stories of these characters is Inner Monologuing, which gives us a glimpse into their thoughts. It is a staple in Shonen and allows us to peer into the minds of these characters. While Bleach and Naruto use this to inform us about a character’s doubts, strategies, and emotions, One Piece fails to do so with its protagonist.

Shonen anime and manga have long captivated us with their awesome characters, sprawling worlds, and high-octane, pulse-pounding, adrenaline-pumping, ass-kicking, name-taking, bone-breaking, world-shaking (sorry for having to put up with this) battles. Series like One Piece, Demon Slayer, and Bleach are all over pop culture, and people love these series and their characters for overcoming impossible odds. Who doesn’t love watching Ichigo fight strong hollows, or Tanjiro fighting the Moons?
