(WGHP) — The hottest weather since last summer is rolling into the Piedmont. Get ready for several days in the 90s. Our last time hitting 90 was August 30, 2024, 291 days ago. Due to the heat and humidity today, we expect a few isolated showers and thunderstorms through this evening, then partly cloudy overnight. Lows near 72. Partly sunny tomorrow with a high near 90. The chance for a shower or thunderstorm tomorrow will be low at 30%.

(WGHP) — The heat of summer is starting to appear in the Piedmont. We are about to see our first 90-degree day of 2025. We have also noticed an increase in the humidity. The best way to tell that is by looking at the dew point. If that number reaches 70 or above, the air is very muggy. We are hanging around that value now. The combination of heat and the humid air is enough to kick off a few showers and thunderstorms. We will see some of these this evening and tonight.

HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — We can always count on hot weather in the summer here in North Carolina. We are now rolling through May, and this is the month when we normally experience our first 90-degree day. You may be surprised to learn that our first 90 has been arriving later over the years. Over the past 122 years since records began for the Triad in 1903, the first 90-degree day of the year averages to May 19. Since 1950, it has averaged to May 25, and, since 2000, the first has averaged May 29.

(WGHP) — A cold front is approaching from the north and will reach northern Virginia where it will stall tomorrow. This is close enough to give us a 35% chance for a shower or thunderstorm at some point tomorrow. Severe weather is NOT expected as we are in the level 0 threat shading. Lows tonight around 62 and highs tomorrow around 83. Partly cloudy tomorrow night with lows at a mild 64. Partly Sunny and 85 on Thursday. There is a slight 20% chance for a shower on Thursday.
