1. IntroductionThe purpose of this article is to advance conceptual studies on how UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, especially the Gêres-Xurés Biosphere Reserve, can be analysed from a territorial point of view with regard to sustainable tourism, by facilitating, through protective regulations, the conservation of biodiversity that exists in them, the protection of their cultural heritage and the coexistence with the local population, from the point of view of an organic and functional tourism system.
