JioStar is India's second largest media company after Google. It was born in November 2024 after the merger of Viacom18 and Star India, owned by Reliance Industries/Bodhi Tree Systems, and The Walt Disney Company respectively. The ₹26,000 crore firm's merged app, JioHostar, just hit 170 million subscribers. In the past month, India’s Amazon MX Player showcased 100 titles on its 2025 slate. Netflix added 26 Indian originals, including Vikramaditya Motwane’s grim and gripping, "Black Warrant". The newly branded JioHotstar, launched on 14 Feb with a powerful sports play, big-ticket international brands, a slate of Korean dramas, originals such as "Oops Ab Kya?" Brahma, an artificial intelligence (AI) firm, was created in 2024 by London-based visual effects major DNEG with $200 million raised from UAE's United Al Saqer Group. On Tuesday, Brahma announced the acquisition of another London-based AI firm, Metaphysic. The United Al Saqer Group will invest another $25 million in Brahma. DNEG, a winner of seven academy awards (Dune, Inception etc), is a subsidiary of Mumbai-based Prime Focus.
