The Washington Wizards are in the middle of one of the worst seasons in NBA history. They won just nine of their first 54 games before the all-star break and have the worst record in the NBA, 3½ games behind the New Orleans Pelicans. The season extends the franchise’s struggles in the 21st century: The Wizards have the lowest winning percentage of all franchises since Jan. 1, 2000. They also haven’t won at least 50 games in a season — the mark of a very good but not great team — since 1978-79.
