Wednesday’s secret meeting of the Government Council on Foreign and Defense Affairs (KYSEA) will decide Greece’s Long-Term Defense Procurements Plan for the years 2025-2036, with the Navy set to receive the bulk of the funding. The meeting, in which the Armed Forces leadership will also take part, is not expected to discuss programs for which contracts have already been signed, but where delivery will be within the aforementioned period, such as for the advanced F-35 aircraft.

The close defense relations between France and Greece were affirmed Monday during the visit of French Minister of Defense Sebastien Lecornu. In practical terms, the two countries signed a 33-million-euro agreement for the procurement of 16 French-built Exocet anti-ship missiles and, specifically, the more advanced version MM40 Block 3. They will complement the existing, earlier makes of Exocet now in Greece’s gunboats.
