Parkinson’s Europe member association Parkinson Italia (ONLUS) is playing a prominent supportive role in Preserving the Brain: A Call to Action. The initiative by the Prada Foundation focuses on the importance of prevention and early treatment of incurable diseases including Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, ALS, and Multiple Sclerosis, as well as Parkinson’s.

Over the six years that German neurologist Dr Ines Debove and filmmaker Bettina Rotzetter have been making films featuring people with Parkinson’s, they have not shied away from difficult topics. Their sixth and most recent film, Beyond Impulse, released in December 2024, focuses on impulse control disorders.

It may be small in size, but its impact is immense: the Berlin-based YUVEDO Foundation has rapidly become a driving force in the fight against Parkinson’s. Since its establishment in 2019 by Dr. Jörg Karenfort and Jens Greve – both diagnosed with the disease in 2013 – the foundation has built a reputation for combining science, advocacy and cultural engagement in its pursuit of a cure. Dr. Karenfort, a leading business lawyer, is no stranger to tackling complex challenges.

“When I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, I found that there was a great lack of knowledge about it,” says 53-year-old Alberto Amil Lago, who lives in A Coruña in northwest Spain. He was also, understandably, concerned that there was no cure. Alberto was 38 when he was diagnosed with Early Onset Parkinson’s in 2011.

The charity Parkinson’s UK has this week announced a new “community-first” strategy, as well as a new logo and refreshed brand identity to reflect this. Explaining its fresh approach, a statement from the charity said: “This means keeping those living with the condition at the heart of its work, as well as those giving them care and support.”The new strategy is the outcome of a consultation with more than a thousand of the 153,000 people living with Parkinson’s in the UK.

A new e-book, What Parkinson’s Feels Like: a collection of illustrations inspired by descriptions written by people with Parkinson’s around the globe, has been created by Canadian artist with Parkinson’s Barbara Salsberg Mathews to raise awareness and share with others what it’s like to live with the condition. Free to download, the e-book is the result of a question Barbara posted to her social media followers with Parkinson’s earlier this year: what does Parkinson’s feel like for you?
