Starting today, Caltrans will begin a grind and pave operation on the northbound lanes of Highway 101 near Goleta. Crews will work in various locations from Winchester Canyon Road to El Capitan today and tomorrow, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.The operation will also continue next week, Monday through Wednesday. Travelers should expect alternating lane closures with delays no longer than 10 minutes. The project aims to improve pavement conditions for drivers.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department is planning to conduct prescribed pile burns along Paradise road this week. These burns can help prevent the spread of wildfires and reduce impacts to nearby watersheds that can result in soil loss and sedimentation. Around two acres of plant material will be burned, and conditions will be monitored to minimize smoke impacts in Santa Barbara County. Still, it is difficult to predict which areas of the county may be affected.

Santa Barbara Police Department is investigating two separate incidents of assault involving a deadly weapon that happened early Sunday morning. Around 2 a.m., police officers responded to Cottage Hospital for a reported stabbing victim who was brought to the emergency room. The victim had serious injuries and needed emergency surgery.

District Attorney Dan Dow is hosting a victims' advocacy event today, inviting community members to learn more about crime victims' rights. The Board of Supervisors has officially designated the month of April as "Crime Victims' Rights Awareness Month. Goleta Valley Library will close for relocation starting Apr. 1 as it prepares to move to a temporary site. The relocation period will take place throughout April and May. During this time, library staff will be working on readying operations and services to continue off-site. Meanwhile, the 500 N. Fairview facility will undergo construction for 18 to 24 months.
