A 42-year-old Port Allen woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash shortly before noon Monday in Greenwell Springs. The crash on La. 37 near Sandy Creek Community Road in East Baton Rouge Parish claimed the life of Chiquita Rogers, according to State Police. The preliminary investigation revealed that Rogers was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt northbound on La. 37 and stopped to make a left turn.

Baton Rouge Police homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting after being called to the scene in the 6500 block of Blackberry Street at 11:17 p.m. Saturday. Karvell St. Cyr, 22, was found deceased on scene from gunshot wounds, police said. This is an ongoing investigation. The motive and suspect(s) are unknown at this time. A juvenile male has been booked after surrendering to police in the fatal shooting Sunday morning of 48-year-old Latasha Thomas. Baton Rouge Police responded to the shooting in the 3700 block of Plank Road at 11:28 a.m. Sunday. Thomas was found deceased from gunshot wounds, police said. During the investigation, the juvenile suspect went to 1st District with his mother and turned himself in.
State Police investigating deputy-involved shooting in Hammond

Louisiana State Police, at the request of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a deputy-involved fatal shooting. One person died in the shooting shortly before midnight Saturday on South Baptist Road on Saturday near US 190 in Hammond, according to an LSP news release. No deputies were harmed during the incident, State Police said. The agency did not provide further information Sunday morning.

Detectives learned that an SUV was traveling westbound at this location when the gunshots were fired from a fleeing vehicle, police said. The SUV then crashed into a truck traveling in the same direction and flipped onto its side after both vehicles hit the retaining wall.

Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome said the brawl Sunday evening at the Summer of Hope block party at BREC's Liberty Lagoon will not affect the Summer of Hope initiatives. The incident, which she said involved a small group, did not result in any injuries or shots fired, according to the news release issued Sunday night with her statement. WBRZ reported the incident occurred at 8:45 p.m. and that Baton Rouge Police vehicles had shut down Lobdell Avenue.
