A man with an extensive criminal history that includes a homicide and kidnapping has been arrested in the April 1 shooting death of James Williams, Baton Rouge Police report. BRPD homicide detectives arrested Daniel Westley, 39, in the fatal shooting in the 10,000 block of Avenue E. Westley was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on counts of first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon, police said Sunday.

Baton Rouge Police homicide detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Sunday morning. At 3:04 a.m., BRPD uniformed officers responded to a dispatched call reporting a disturbance involving an armed male suspect at the Super 6 Inns and Suites at 9901 Gwenadele Ave. There, officers encountered a 34-year old man in the parking lot. An exchange of gunfire ensued between the man and officers.

A 42-year-old Port Allen woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash shortly before noon Monday in Greenwell Springs. The crash on La. 37 near Sandy Creek Community Road in East Baton Rouge Parish claimed the life of Chiquita Rogers, according to State Police. The preliminary investigation revealed that Rogers was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt northbound on La. 37 and stopped to make a left turn.

Baton Rouge Police homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting after being called to the scene in the 6500 block of Blackberry Street at 11:17 p.m. Saturday. Karvell St. Cyr, 22, was found deceased on scene from gunshot wounds, police said. This is an ongoing investigation. The motive and suspect(s) are unknown at this time. Anyone having information on this shooting incident is urged to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at (225) 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
