    Hope for the futureWhales, dolphins, and porpoises face so many challenges in today’s ocean, but with better management of MPAs, we have a real chance to make a difference. These areas have the potential to be true havens, but we need to regulate human activities to ensure they live up to that potential. Let’s make sure MPAs aren’t just lines on a map, but real safe zones where whales, dolphins, and porpoises can thrive.

    In our Wishlist, we asked for 15 microscopes to use during our ‘Green Whale’ program where students learn about the relationship between plankton and whales, and how they team up to fight climate change. We finally put our brand-new microscopes to the test at the end of January when I took our microscopes to Eastham Elementary for our first plankton lab with 24 third graders.

    We celebrated this huge win which is an example of how long advocacy can take but how monumental the change can be. We will still be following the recovery of the Klamath, and now we are setting our sights on the next big change for Southern Resident orcas.
