    Musician and actor Rick Springfield kicked off his “I Want My 80’s” tour at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater for a Wednesday “hump day” show! He brought along some of his 80’s comrades to bring back the memories of those glorious MTV days to a live music show. For this show, John Cafferty, Wang Chung, John Waite and Rick brought us 80’s hits and more. John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band opened the show and brought his hits along.

    The Mahaffey Theater is celebrating 60 years in St. Petersburg and they kicked it off with a birthday party and the best freakin’ American rock band around, Cheap Trick! Opening the doors early with a party room decorated in Trick checkerboard and memorabilia along with a DJ and photo booth for the concert ticket holders. There was a raffle for front row seats and lots of dancing to 80’s rock, that included Bon Jovi, Guns & Roses and of course Cheap Trick.

    The Florida Orchestra gave the Tampa Bay area a huge gift in bringing the mega-talented Cynthia Erivo to a SOLD-OUT St. Pete show to kick-off her series of tour dates across the U.S. over the summer months. Erivo is extremely busy; her new album, “I Forgive You” drops on June 6 and she is hosting the Tony Awards on June 8th.

    In downtown St. Pete, at the Mahaffey Theatre, baby boomers were out in full force to hear the tunes of the great Burt Bacharach. Musician Todd Rundgren and a cast of stunning singers paid tribute to one of the greatest popular music songbooks of our time.    The versatility of Rundgren over his nearly 60-year career is unmatched by anyone I can think of.

    Looks like musicians and artists are ready to get out of the winter freeze and bring their talents to the Suncoast and Tampa Bay areas. Starting with Sarasota at Van Wezel Performing Arts Center, the week of March 10th has the rock & blues of ZZ Top on March 13th and the comedy of Jay Leno & Arsenio Hall on March 14th. Broadway’s traveling tour of “Moulin Rouge” will be in the SRQ the week of March 18th thru March 23rd.
