Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Pan-Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, have urged the Federal Government agencies investigating the helicopter crash in Port Harcourt to do a thorough job. Last Thursday, a helicopter operated by East Wind Aviation ditched into the Bonny River in Rivers State resulting in the death of eight individuals, six contract staff of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL, and two crew members.

Leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and their Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, counterparts, have demanded an end to the recurring increases in the price of petrol to allow Nigerians to breathe. The two labour centres also asked the government to jettison and overhaul all policies that had led to the current economic crisis inflicting unprecedented hunger, suffering and outrageous inequality across the country.

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has decried the nonpayment of nine months of salaries owed to its members employed by the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria, CRFFN. Lagos — There were indications, yesterday, that the petrol shortage in the country will not end soon as $6 billion debt to petrol suppliers, lack of liquidity and other issues have put pressure on the Federal Government's capacity to sustain the importation of the product. This is even as oil marketers said they had not been able to import the product due to the high foreign exchange rate of $1,500/$, which has increased the landing cost of the product to more than N1,100 per litre.
