Accra Lions are on the cusp of relegation from the Ghana Premier League after suffering a heavy 3-1 defeat to Accra Hearts of Oak. Friday's defeat leaves Lions in 16th place on the league table with 35 points, two less than Young Apostles (37), Basake Holy Stars (37), and Karela United (38) who all are yet to play their weekend's fixtures. Hearts opened the scoring after Enoch Asubonteng scored his first goal of the season with a scorcher after just 12 minutes.

In a statement on Friday, May 23, the Ministry said ''The Minister has engaged the National Sports Authority on the report and together, have accepted the findings and recommendations of the committee. The recommendations would have therefore be implemented.

Ghana Athletics, the governing body for athletics in the country, may hold a national trial to select the best sprinters to represent the country. The body had already confirmed a national championship slated for August 2025. However, that event could also serve as the national trial for Ghana's sprinters if more than three of them make the World Championships qualifying mark.

The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season will conclude in three weeks yet, there is still not clear favorite for what will go down as the most competitive in the history of the competition. The level of competition may be debatable, but never before has there been four different clubs; Bibiani Gold Stars (56 points), Nations F.C. (with a game in hand) and Kpando Heart of Lions (54 points each), and Asante Kotoko (54 points), all with a realistic chance of winning the league.
