Some primary school teachers in Taraba State have lamented the poor treatment from the government, occasioned by the non-payment of five months’ salary arrears and lack of facilities in schools. According to them, the free education policy of the government is not yielding results and has worsened the state of schools and teachers’ welfare since the government has been unable to fulfill its promise. The government had in June 2023 declared a state of emergency in the education sector.

Troops of the 6th Brigade, Nigeria Army, Jalingo were engaged in a “fierce” gun battle with bandits in the volatile southern Taraba State, where the troops overpowered them and took over their hideouts. According to a statement by spokesman of the brigade, Captain Olubodunde Oni, “the operation, code named OP Golden Peace started after extensive confidence-building patrols, clearance missions and stakeholder engagements, which proved effective in the northern part of the state”.

Former African badminton champion, Ephraim Jinkam, has received N10 million and a Hilux vehicle from the Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas. Also, the Taraba State Director of Sports and renown national badminton coach, George Shitta received a N5 million naira gift. Speaking during the presentation at the TY Danjuma House Jalingo, the governor applauded the exploits of Jinkam in the game of badminton.

Foreigners arrestedChairman of Taraba State Task Force on Environmental Protection, Public Safety and Deforestation, Brigadier General Jeremiah Faransa, has said that at least 22 forest reserves in the state “have been destroyed and made farmlands and mining sites”. He also said that some foreign nationals, including Chinese and some West African citizens involved in illegal mining have been arrested.
