I’ve told countless dementia carers to make time for themselves, but since becoming a sandwich carer, I’ve realised how difficult that can be. I am part of the 1.3 million people in the UK who are sandwich carers, meaning I am responsible for the care of my children as well as my elderly relative. I am also an Admiral Nurse at Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity.
