Five days before I boarded an overnight train to Victory City, the Coromandel Express rammed into a stationary goods train at the speed of eighty miles per hour. The impact of the collision sent the express train careening onto an adjacent track, where a third train, traveling in the opposite direction, crashed into some of its coaches. Nearly three hundred people had been reported dead.
