1 Introduction In 2014, Russia occupied Crimea and portions of eastern Ukraine and then on 24 February 2022 launched a large-scale invasion of the rest of Ukraine, initiating a major conflict that continues as of this writing, in mid-2023. In addition to the immense human, economic, and political consequences of the war, there have been extensive impacts for the region's natural resources, including agriculture, industry, and especially water resources and water systems.
