IntroductionBenign tumors of the bile duct are rarer than malignant ones. Bile duct adenomas, first reported by Carrolli in 1959, account for two-thirds of all benign biliary tumors (1) and for 0.1% of all biliary tract surgeries (2). Bile duct adenomas arise from the bile duct epithelium. The incidence and pathogenesis remain unclear (3). Because of the risk of recurrence and progression to cholangiocarcinoma, curative resection is the treatment of choice for bile duct adenomas (4).
