The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that there is an alarming increase in suicides among tribal people settled in the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram district in Kerala with about 23 deaths reported in 2024 itself. Reportedly, as per rough estimates, around 138 happened mostly in Peringammala Panchayat in the district between 2011-2022.

The Hon’ble Court of Special Judge-I, CBI Cases, Ernakulam today sentenced Shri P. Ramakrishnan, then Passport Officer, Regional Passport Office, Malappuram, Kerala (on deputation from Postal Deptt.) to five years’ Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with fine of Rs. 5 lakh in a Disproportionate Assets (DA) case. The Court also ordered that DA amounting to Rs.29,49,607/- be confiscated.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two Proclaimed Offenders (POs) namely Divil Kumar and Rajesh, who are accused and were absconding in a case of brutal murder of a lady and her new born girl twins at Achal, Distt Kollam, Kerala. CBI had re-registered the said case on 06.02.2010 and undertook investigation in compliance of order of the Hon’ble High Court of Kerala dated 15-1-2010 transferring investigation of the case to CBI.
