A stone throw away from Bomet County Governor’s office, off Narok-Bomet-Kisii Road, is Bomet IAAF Stadium, a dilapidated sports facility whose construction has stalled for seven years, having gobbled up Sh300 million from the public coffers. As one approaches the facility which is a poor excuse for a stadium, a grey unmanned metallic gate opens outwards, and a perimeter wall with rusty iron bars protruding from the top points to a massive but abandoned project.

Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu has fallen out with a section of Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), who have accused him of skewed allocation of development funds and bursaries in the region. The MCAs have also questioned the whereabouts of road construction equipment bought by the county at Sh1.48 billion, claiming that it has not been deployed to certain wards especially those represented by leaders perceived to be critics of the governor.

The Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) Vice Chairman, Erick Chepkwony, has collapsed and died. Mr Chepkwony, a member of the board of directors at the Tea Board of Kenya (TB), also serves as the Regional chairman for factories falling under zone eight, covering Bomet county in the West of Rift Valley (a KTDA zone). Until his death, Mr Chepkwony, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) holder, was also the Chief Officer for Finance at the County Government of Bomet.
