Penn’s School of Social Policy & Practice will discontinue a program that helps formerly incarcerated individuals transition back into their communities, according to a recent announcement. The Goldring Reentry Initiative was established with the mission of addressing the barriers faced by formerly incarcerated individuals — combining academic expertise with hands-on case management to provide comprehensive reentry services.

On-campus partisan political student groups have reported an increasing difficulty in registering events amid Penn’s move to limit University statements on political events. Penn College Republicans and Penn Democrats, the University’s largest partisan political organizations, told The Daily Pennsylvanian that they have faced difficulties registering events on campus.

A new proposal for Penn’s divestment from Israel produced by Penn’s Muslim Students Association was declined by the University Council Steering Committee after a presentation last month. After receiving a majority of votes from ballot respondents, MSA created a divestment proposal over the summer that was presented to the University Council Steering Committee on Sept. 23.

About 50 community members gathered at a memorial for lives lost in Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, and Syria hosted by Penn’s Muslim Students' Association and the Penn Arab Student Society on Oct. 7. The event consisted of a janazah prayer — a traditional Muslim funeral prayer — followed by an open remembrance space and took place in the ARCH building. The memorial was open to all and required a PennCard to enter.
