    French environmental services group Veolia is partnering with the technology company Mistral AI in a cooperation that will use generative artificial intelligence (AI) to optimise plant operations and processes in the water, waste and energy sectors.     The European Recycling Industries' Confederation (EuRIC) has added a focus area to its activities with the launch of its Ship Recycling Working Group (ESRG). The new working group is to address current barriers in ship recycling within the European Union, Euric explained. Although the 2018 EU Ship Recycling Regulation was designed to ensure environmentally sound and safe ship recycling practices, challenges remain, according to the European recycling industry umbrella organisation.

    The French energy group Total Energies has announced the takeover of the Finnish firm Tecoil. Tecoil specialised in manufacturing re-refined base oils and had the most efficient used oil regeneration technology on the market, Total Energies reported. The company did not provide and further details about the transaction. Tecoil posted revenues of €54m for the 2022 financial year.

    The European Parliament adopted its position at first reading on the proposed Green Claims Directive in Strasbourg last week. A total of 467 MEPs voted in favour of the legislation and 65 against with 74 members abstaining. The text approved by the plenary sets out the Parliament's position on the Directive, which would create a verification and pre-approval system for environmental marketing claims to protect EU consumers from misleading advertising.
